CARBON

Oversight

Environmental Working Group – An environmental working group, comprised of department heads and CSR, convenesquarterly.

On Site

On-site carbon neutrality goal of 2030.
100% of our electricityis from a green / renewable source.

CDP

Thistle submits annually to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

Environment

Waste

Food Waste

Thistle are engaged with WRAP’s Food Waste Reduction Roadmap to reduce our food waste by 50%by 2030.

General Waste

100% of our general waste now goes to an energy from waste (EFW) incineration plant, avoiding landfill.

Recycling

We recycle wherever possible on site, including cardboard, plastics, scrap metal & IT hardware.

Water

Thistle are in the process of measuring water usage and aim to reduce where possible.

Raw Material

MSC Database

Thistle, where possible, sources wild-caught fish from an MSC certified fishery.

Data we collect includes MSC fishery, client group countries, CAB, fishery certificate,expiry date, gear type, ALDFG risk rating and HRRI score, progress against conditions.

Farmed Seafood Database

We also generate an ASC/farmed seafood database.

Ethical

Oversight

Thistle has an Ethical Working Group; comprised of representatives from all departments and meet 3 to 4 times per year.

On Site

Every employee is given modern slavery awareness training at induction.
Stronger Together modern slavery training courses completed by CSR and members of the Ethical Working Group.

Thistle are members of SEDEX and are SMETA audited annually.

Supply Chain

Scotland Against Modern Slavery (SAMS) – Thistle are corporate partners of this initiative & attend all round table webinars.
Thistle incorporate the use of Human Rights Risk Indicator (HRRI) via SFP. This provides country level index of MS risk mapped to our raw material sourcing.

RFVS -we are engaged with and advocate thescheme.

GDST Tracability

GDST – Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability

Thistle are endorsers of GDST.
Thistle have recognised the requirement to have full traceability i.e., back to farm or fishing vessel.
We view GDST as a “game changer’ for the sector – will need to be implemented via phased /incremental implementation.
We are presently reviewing a short-list of potential service providers and awaiting the results of compliance testing from GDST which will also assess the interoperability of the software providers.

Responsible Sourcing
